According to the news today, it looks like the FBI is hot on the trail of Jimmy Hoffa. Again. Or, rather, his remains, if any.

I had a good girlfriend who moved to Southfield, Michigan, in 1978. Whenever I would go to visit her, we always managed to squeeze in at least one Jimmy Hoffa search party. Of course, it was just us, and we didn't really know what we were doing. We didn't even take shovels along. Usually, we'd just go to the restaurant where he was last seen, sit in her car in the parking lot, and try to imagine what his last minutes were like.

Hey, this was really big news in the 70's. Really big. I guess you had to be there.

One time on a blustery Saturday afternoon in January, we were walking across the parking deck at the Renaissance and noticed an odd bump in the otherwise smooth concrete. We both stood still for a moment and wondered aloud if perhaps we were standing on Jimmy's grave. Then we went on our way.

I seriously doubt we'll ever know what really happened. But, I hope they do find his remains and his family can get some peace.
